Network Administrators are responsible for the overall operation of a network. Their duties include developing and implementing the policies, procedures, and practices that ensure that the network is secure and reliable. They also ensure that all computers on the network are working properly. Network administrators also monitor network traffic and take action to ensure that it remains within acceptable levels.
Network administrators must have strong technical skills as well as knowledge of networking technology in order to work effectively at this position. They should also have excellent communication skills, as they will be required to interact with other members of the organization on a daily basis. Network administrators also implement and monitor user access to applications on each computer, server or other device connected to the network.
Networks can range from small home networks with just one router to large corporations with multiple routers and switches. Network administrators have a wide range of responsibilities that include installing devices, configuring settings, managing users’ access to devices and services, maintaining security of the network, troubleshooting problems with networks, etc.
Network administrators are responsible for the day-to-day administration of the network infrastructure. They ensure that all systems, devices and services are operating within their expected limits and that the system is functioning as intended. The role of a network administrator is broad and varied with some tasks including:
- Buying hardware, software and services for a network
- Installing the hardware into an existing network
- Updating the operating systems of various devices on the network
- Troubleshooting issues with various devices on a network
